Opening Reception: Nature’s Ephemera–Pressed Plants of the Northwest by James Anello

July 13 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

For hundreds of years, explorers and botanists collected and pressed plants as a way of preserving botanical records of their journeys. Today, this lost art is experiencing a renaissance as artists are discovering the beauty of creating art with flowers and leaves.

James Anello utilizes traditional methods and new techniques – including a microwavable plant press – to document and celebrate the native flora of the Northwest. A member of the David Douglas Society, James focuses on plants that Douglas, a botanist and explorer who traveled along the Columbia and Willamette Rivers in the early 1800s, collected.

This exhibition is sponsored by the David Douglas Society with support from the Straub Environmental Center and the Willamette Valley Chapter of the Native Plant Society.
