EcoFest 2017

  

June 17–A Party for the Planet!

EcoFest is a family-friendly, educational outdoor festival hosted by the Straub Environmental Center in partnership with the City of Salem slated for June 17, 2017 at Riverfront Park.

EcoFest will feature:

  • a showcase of businesses offering earth-friendly products and services;
  • hands-on educational displays and activities provided by local non-profit organizations;
  • nature walks;
  • a “Green Energy Area” highlighting renewable energy and alternative-fueled cars;
  • a rock climbing wall and obstacle relay course for kids;
  • yoga classes;
  • music;
  • educational performances;
  • local food carts; and,
  • craft beers and wine! 

Participating Community Partners

EcoFest will feature businesses with environmentally sustainable goods and services, as well as agencies and nonprofits that will provide engaging activities, services, and information on sustainability.

  • Green Business Hub (local eco-friendly businesses): Capitol Subaru, Daily Routines Clothing, The Garden Angels, Indigo Wellness, LifeSource Natural Foods, Portland General Electric, Salt and Sea Designs, Willamette Ear, Nose and Throat.
  • Green Energy Area: PGE, Energy Trust of Oregon, Oregon Department of Energy, Oregon Electric Vehicle Association, and Green Mountain Energy.
  • Nonprofit Neighborhood: Cherriots Trip Choice, City of Salem, Friends of Trees, GeerCrest Farm & Historical Society, Marion County Public Works, Native Plant Society-Willamette Valley Chapter, North Santiam Watershed Council, Oregon Wild, Salem Audubon Society, Straub Environmental Center and Pacific Crest Trail Association.

Healthy Food + Beverages

The Space, the only all-vegan Salem restaurant, will offer a variety of food options for purchase, including a summer vegan BBQ meal with sliders, beans, cole slaw, lemonade and more! Sparky’s Brewing Company will offer craft beers and wine and LifeSource Natural Foods will have juices, coffee and health sweet treats available for purchase.

Kids’ Activities

Yes! EcoFest will have an Eco Adventure Area featuring a rock climbing wall and “Earth Flag” craft activity. The City of Salem will also host a Water Pollution Prevention Obstacle Course where kids become eco-friendly super heroes as they swiftly move through the obstacle course helping to keep our environment and our streams clean!

Performances + Yoga

EcoFest will also host interactive events and performances in the Community Tent throughout the day:

10:00 – 10:30 am….. Sing-along Songs presented by the Ge Me Wun Camp Fire group

10:45 – 11:45 am….. Community Yoga presented by Indigo Yoga: A community, outdoor yoga practice suitable for all levels of participants.

12:30 – 1:00 pm…… “Mad Science” presented by PGE:  An entertaining, energetic look at electricity. Learn how electricity travels and how to conserve energy.

1:00 – 2:00 pm…….. Nature Presentation + Guided Nature Walk: Take a walk with a City of Salem park ranger and learn about the birds, turtles and other wildlife that live in and around Salem!

2:30 – 3:00 pm…….. “Mad Science” presented by PGE

4:00 – 5:00 pm…….. “Folk Up & Peace Out” with DJs CyanoSunset & Wild Man Dave
